Qatar Energy Export of the First LNG Shipment from Golden Pass in America

Khaberni  - Qatar Energy announced the export of the first shipment of liquefied natural gas from the "Golden Pass" project in Sabine Pass, Texas, a joint project between Qatar Energy and Exxon Mobil.

The company stated in a statement that "this historic shipment of liquefied natural gas is an important step towards the initiation of commercial operations and full export activities of the project."

The company indicated that the loading of the shipment was carried out "successfully and safely" on board the liquefied natural gas carrier "Al Qaadiyah," a modern tanker recently built in South Korea with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters.

Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Energy, said: "This shipment represents a significant accomplishment in the energy sector, inaugurating a new chapter in Qatar Energy's efforts to meet the increasing demand for liquefied natural gas and ensure reliable supplies to global markets."

He added: "The Golden Pass liquefied natural gas project is one of the largest investment decisions in the history of the American liquefied natural gas industry, which consolidates the position of Qatar Energy and its reputation as a reliable provider and preferred partner in driving development around the world."

What is the Golden Pass Project

The Golden Pass Liquefied Natural Gas is a joint venture between Qatar Energy (70%) and Exxon Mobil (30%).

The two parties had announced their final decision to invest more than $10 billion in the Golden Pass Liquified Natural Gas project in February 2019.

Qatar Energy Trading, a wholly-owned entity of Qatar Energy that trades liquefied natural gas, will market 70% of the total project production capacity of 18 million tons annually.

The initiation of liquefied natural gas export operations from the Golden Pass project will enhance the global "liquefied" portfolio of Qatar Energy Trading and support the continuous growth of its business.
