Khaberni - New leaks suggest that Apple might resort to notable concessions in the iPhone 18, in an attempt to keep its price unchanged despite rising costs in the technology sector.
Potential screen regression
According to information released by the tech leaker Fixed Focus Digital through the "Weibo" platform, the basic version of the phone might see a reduction in screen quality, a step described as a regression in the manufacturing process.
Although precise details have not been disclosed, projections indicate a potential reduction in brightness levels, especially given the difficulty of foregoing a high refresh rate, according to a report by "phonearena".
This comes in comparison to the iPhone 17, which featured a 6.3-inch screen with ProMotion technology and a brightness of up to 3000 nits.
A lesser processor under a new name
In another leak, the same source mentioned that "Apple" might also reduce the capabilities of the processor in the new phone, possibly introducing it under a different name to obscure the technical differences. This approach is similar to what happened with the iPhone 17 series, where the number of GPU cores varied between versions despite the similarity in processors.
Cost reduction a priority
This step is part of a broader strategy to reduce production costs, as it is expected that the iPhone 18 and its budget version iPhone 18e will share a greater number of components. The leaks indicate that both phones will enter the Engineering Verification Test (EVT) phase around the same time in June.
Although this information has not been officially confirmed by "Apple", the leaker’s record in previous predictions, especially with the iPhone 17e, enhances the credibility of these claims.
A decision that may satisfy users
Smartphone companies are facing increasing pressure due to rising prices, with devices from companies like "Samsung" and "Oppo" experiencing significant price increases, along with the cost of some recent "Motorola" devices.
In this context, lowering specifications might be an acceptable option for a broad segment of users, who prefer to maintain the price in exchange for limited performance compromises, especially since modern devices provide sufficient performance for everyday use.
It is expected that "Apple" will maintain some clear differences between the two versions, such as the presence of “Dynamic Island” and a relatively larger screen, along with improvements in the camera and battery in the base version, which are tangible elements for users more than the precise technical differences in the processor.
These trends suggest that "Apple" is seeking to reset the price-performance equation, at a time when users' price sensitivity has become a crucial factor in purchasing decisions.
