Khaberni - On Thursday, Jordan will sign the "Artemis" agreements with the US space agency "NASA" during official ceremonies held at the agency's headquarters in the US capital, Washington.
According to an announcement released by NASA, the signing ceremony will be conducted by the Jordanian Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, along with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans, Environment, and Science, Ruth Perry.
By signing these agreements, Jordan will become the 63rd country in the world and the fifth Arab country to join the "Artemis Accords", which is an international framework launched in 2020 during the first administration of President Donald Trump, led by NASA and the US Department of State, with participation from seven other founding countries.
The agreements aim to establish practical principles to enhance safety, transparency, and coordination in space exploration activities for peaceful purposes on the Moon, Mars, and beyond, amid growing interest from governments and private companies in lunar activities.
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) noted that the Jordanian Geographic Center, which hosts the Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education for Western Asia, had begun formal procedures through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs and the Jordanian Embassy in Washington, to join the Artemis Accords.
According to the office, joining allows the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan access to enhanced international cooperation and an opportunity to participate in the NASA-led "Artemis Program", contributing to shaping the future of space exploration in a peaceful, safe, and sustainable way.
In the same context, the office indicated that preparations have begun to organize the first NASA Analog Mission in the Wadi Rum area, to be launched in November 2026, within the framework of the Artemis Accords.
