Khaberni - More than a thousand musicians around the world have called for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest in May (May) in Vienna, in protest of Israel's participation, according to what the «French Press Agency» reported.
The letter, published on the website of the movement «No Music for Genocide», gathered more than 1100 signatures by yesterday (Tuesday).
Most of the signatories are artists contracted with small to medium-sized production companies, but they include famous groups and singers such as Massive Attack, Nick Cave, Macklemore, and Roger Waters.
The signatories call for the exclusion of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (KAN) which «has become complicit in the crimes against humanity committed by Israel».
The French-Israeli singer Noam Bitan (27 years old) was selected to represent Israel, where the competition enjoys large viewership and its candidates receive significant support.
The Eurovision Song Contest, which celebrates its seventieth edition this year, faces the largest boycott in its history due to Israel’s participation.
Broadcasting bodies from Spain, Ireland, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Slovenia have announced their withdrawal.
The withdrawing countries criticized the bloody and destructive Israeli war in Gaza following the attack by the Palestinian movement «Hamas» on October 7, 2023.
Israel has won the Eurovision Song Contest four times, the last being in 2018.
