Jordan Launches Comprehensive Plan to Develop Education Qualifying 75000 Teachers and Building 500 Schools Over 4 Years

Khaberni - Minister of Education Dr. Azmi Mahafaza presented the features of a comprehensive strategic plan to develop the education sector, centering on qualifying educational staff, curriculum development, setting up plans for academic and vocational education improvement, digital transformation, and enhancing the school environment, which contributes to improving the quality of educational outputs and meeting the requirements of the upcoming phase.

Mahafaza, during his intervention in a Senate session today, Wednesday, emphasized that the development of teachers is a top priority, noting that the ministry aims to qualify about 75,000 teachers through the Advanced Diploma program for teacher training, representing more than 80 percent of the teaching staff.

He explained that the teacher training and qualification programs are either pre-service or during service, in cooperation with Jordanian universities and the Queen Rania Academy for Teacher Training, within a plan that spans several years.

He mentioned that the ministry is moving forward with the digital transformation by launching a comprehensive educational platform that employs artificial intelligence technologies, and integrating the smart assistant "Siraj" into it, in addition to working on providing all schools in the kingdom with internet service next year, in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy, to enhance the use of technology in educational processes.

The minister stated that the National Center for Curriculum Development continues to review and update curricula based on feedback from the educational field and in line with scientific developments, alongside activating direct educational supervision systems to monitor the educational process.

He pointed out that the ministry is implementing a plan to develop the infrastructure of schools, which includes building about 500 schools over the next four years, which will contribute to ending the double-shift system and reducing reliance on leased schools, noting that more than 60 schools have been received this year, which were built with support from international entities, corporate social responsibility allocations, and the ministry’s budget.

He affirmed that these efforts are integrated with the development of the higher education sector, through updating curricula and enhancing academic qualification and appointment standards, in line with labor market requirements and achieving visions of comprehensive modernization.
