Khaberni - Amman Secretariat Committee Chairman, Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, said on Wednesday that the city's electronic monitoring system is not a new invention and it includes several aspects, including traffic violations.
In statements to "Al-Mamlaka" channel, he added that the monitoring system is part of an integrated system for managing the city and is not limited to controlling traffic violations but includes enhancing public safety and monitoring services, confirming that these systems contribute to reducing accidents.
He emphasized that the aim of these measures is to protect citizens and improve the quality of life in the capital, urging adherence to traffic regulations to ensure safety for everyone.
Al-Shawarbeh questioned, "Why not traffic violations? If we can control our behavior as citizens, which exists in all cities around the world."
He confirmed that radar systems are not new and have been in Amman for years. Al-Shawarbeh asked whether controlling speeds that can lead to human fatalities restricts citizens, and whether parking in a way that obstructs the road is restrictive for citizens.
Starting from Sunday, the Greater Amman Municipality began operating traffic violation radars on a number of main streets within its limits, as part of its efforts to enhance traffic safety and reduce accidents.
He confirmed that electronic monitoring has contributed to reducing the number of deaths from traffic accidents by more than 12%.
He reiterated that the primary goal of these measures is to preserve the lives of citizens and reduce human and economic losses resulting from accidents, urging adherence to traffic regulations to ensure everyone's safety.
