Axios Trumps Deadline for Iran Up to 5 Days

Khaberni  - A US official revealed to "Axios", today, Wednesday, that President Donald Trump decided to extend the ceasefire with Iran for a short period ranging from 3 to 5 days, in a final step to give Tehran a chance to unify its negotiation stance and respond clearly to the American proposals.

This decision was made despite previous reports that indicated that the deadline set by Trump was open-ended.

The official explained that the extension came after Iran's sudden withdrawal from participating in a negotiation round that was scheduled in Islamabad, after it had informed the mediators of its agreement to attend.

The source clarified that Washington now doubts Tehran's ability to make a unified negotiation decision, amid a sharp division between the political leadership and the negotiation team on one side, and the Revolutionary Guards on the other, in addition to neither party being able to communicate with Mojtaba Khamenei.

He mentioned that the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Ahmad Vahidi, is obstructing much of what was agreed upon in the first round of negotiations, while the role of Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, advisor to the National Security Council of Iran, is very limited compared to his predecessor Ali Larijani.

The US Vice President, JD Vance, was scheduled to travel to Islamabad yesterday, Tuesday morning, to lead the American delegation, but the trip was suspended and then postponed indefinitely, after Iran backed down at the last minute from sending its delegation despite its prior assurances to the mediators.
