Conviction of a Jordanian Boxer and His Imprisonment for 10 and a Half Years in a Case of a Young Mans Death

Khaberni  - The Grand Criminal Court issued a ruling sentencing a well-known Jordanian boxer to 10 years and six months in prison, after convicting him of a felony assault leading to death, following the death of a young man inside a barber shop in Shaker neighborhood, Zarqa Governorate, last September.

According to the case details, a dispute arose between the accused and the deceased inside the salon, with varying accounts. One account mentioned that the barber apologized for not being able to provide service due to exhaustion, while another stated that the disagreement began after the deceased declined to take a cigarette from the accused, before escalating to physical assault.

Investigations showed that the accused delivered a strong punch to the victim's abdomen, which led to a rupture in his intestines and a burst colon, subsequently causing his death.

The court decided to modify the charge from intentional killing to assault leading to death, initially sentencing to 7 years in prison before increasing the punishment to 10 years and six months, considering the accused's repeat offender status and a previous felony conviction.

The verdict is subject to appeal before the Court of Cassation.
