Khaberni - Natalia Slyunyaeva, a specialist in gastrointestinal diseases, indicates that the saying "we do not live to eat, but eat to live" does not reflect the full picture, explaining that some foods may gradually contribute to weakening health.
According to her, we might consume some foods daily without realizing their gradual negative impact on health, pointing out five types of foods she describes as a "deferred risk".
1- Sugar and Sweets:
According to her, they are "food" for cancer cells, as excessive sugar consumption leads to a sudden rise in insulin, chronic inflammation, and fat accumulation in the liver.
She advises reducing sugar intake to 25–30 grams daily (including hidden sugars), while enhancing protein intake such as eggs, nuts, and cottage cheese, because it slows glucose absorption.
2- Processed meats:
Contain nitrite, salt, and preservatives that may harm the intestinal wall and increase the risk of colon cancer.
She recommends eating them in limited amounts not exceeding 50 grams once or twice a week, while increasing fiber intake such as leafy vegetables, cabbage, and bran.
3- Vegetable shortening and artificial pastries:
Because they contain trans fats that negatively affect blood vessels, which may lead to arterial sclerosis and insulin resistance.
She advises replacing these foods as much as possible, or minimizing their harm by consuming antioxidants such as green tea or avocados.
4- Canned juices:
The doctor notes that they contain high levels of fructose, which may contribute to fatty liver and gout due to the absence of fiber.
She advises diluting them with water in a 2:1 ratio, or mixing them with vegetable juices, provided that the quantity does not exceed 100–150 ml and it is preferable to consume them after meals.
5- Alcohol:
Excessive consumption may lead to serious damages including damage to nerve cells, liver cirrhosis, and increased risk of some types of cancer.
She explains that the upper limit is estimated at two servings per week, emphasizing that there is no safe dose of alcohol.
The doctor concludes that while these foods do not cause diseases immediately, regular long-term consumption may lead to health problems, affirming that maintaining body health does not depend on "detoxifying", but on making these foods a rare exception in the diet.
