Khaberni - Giannina, daughter of Diego Maradona, criticized on Tuesday what she described as "complete manipulation" practiced by the doctors on the family of the late player before his death in 2020.
Giannina was giving her testimony in the trial of the medical team composed of seven members, accused of gross negligence that led to the death of the Argentine football legend at the age of 60.
Giannina said in court in the suburb of San Isidro, north of Buenos Aires, near where Maradona died during his convalescence after undergoing brain clot surgery, "The manipulation was complete and horrifying."
Giannina added that the doctors convinced her and her siblings that their father would recover safely in his rented home in the suburb of Tigre.
She mentioned that the doctors presented this option as "serious" and assured that his house would be well medically equipped.
She added, "I trusted these three people, who manipulated us and left my father without care," referring to neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, and nurse Carlos Diaz.
The accused face prison sentences ranging from eight to 25 years if found guilty of premeditated murder, i.e., committing an act while knowing it could likely cause death.
The main question in the trial revolves around whether the decision to allow Maradona to recover at home instead of a medical facility endangered his life.
The defendants claim that the star, who lived a tumultuous life and struggled with cocaine and alcohol addiction, died of natural causes.
The legendary 1986 World Cup star, Maradona, died due to heart failure and acute pulmonary edema - a condition where fluid accumulates inside the lungs - two weeks after the operation.
The initial trial related to Maradona's death last year was canceled after the revelation that one of the judges participated in a secret documentary about the case.
