Khalifat National Carrier Water Within Jordans Approved Standards

Khaberni - The director of the National Carrier project, Saddam Khalifat, confirmed on Tuesday that the water specification produced by the National Carrier will be within the approved water specifications in Jordan, despite the difference in source.

Khalifat explained in his talk to Al-Mamlaka TV that Jordan used to rely on groundwater and surface water, while the project will constitute a new source represented by seawater, noting that the existing water system relies on mixing various sources due to their diversity, which necessitated a study of the most suitable option to reach a uniform water quality for all citizens.

He noted that citizens will actually feel the water as pumping begins by the end of 2030, pointing out that distribution will be fair among provinces according to needs, based on studies of the gap and water deficit that showed disparities in water quantities between regions.

He confirmed that the project aims to raise the individual's share to 100 liters per day for each citizen, compared to current rates.

Regarding guarantees, Khalifat clarified that there are binding contractual, financial, and technical guarantees for developers and financiers, including warranties and guarantees provided to ensure the project is executed according to required specifications, stating that these guarantees are necessary in projects of this size to avoid any delays that could affect the progress or cost of the project.

Khalifat stressed that the project will contribute to preserving groundwater affected by overuse in recent years, which led to a decrease in its level and an increase in production costs and deterioration in water quality, in addition to affecting some agricultural and industrial sectors.

He added that the National Carrier project represents a sustainable water source, which will support the gradual recovery of groundwater in the coming years, especially if the rainy seasons improve.
