Meta will monitor its employees clicks and mouse movements to train AI agents

Khaberni - Meta will install new tracking software on its employees’ computers in the United States with the aim of monitoring mouse movements, clicks, and keystrokes to train its artificial intelligence models, according to internal memos Reuters had access to.

This initiative is part of a broad initiative to build artificial intelligence agents capable of performing work tasks independently.

According to an internal memo published by one of the artificial intelligence researchers at the company on Tuesday through an internal channel dedicated to Meta's advanced AI labs team, this tool will operate on a range of work-related applications and websites, and will occasionally capture screenshots of employees' screen content to provide additional context.

According to the memo, the purpose of this procedure is to improve the company's models in areas where it still faces difficulties, such as selecting options from dropdown menus and using keyboard shortcuts.

The memo stated: "Here, all Meta employees can contribute to improving our models simply by performing their daily tasks".

Meta's spokesperson, Andy Stone, said the data collected will not be used for performance evaluation or any other purpose other than training the models, adding that there are precautionary measures to protect sensitive content.

The spokesperson added: "If we are building artificial intelligence agents to help people accomplish daily tasks using computers, then our models need real examples of how people actually use them—like mouse movements, clicking on buttons, and navigating through dropdown menus".

He continued: "To aid this, we are launching an internal tool that will capture these types of inputs on some applications with the aim of training our models".
