Hungary threatens to arrest Netanyahu

Khaberni -  Peter Magyar, who will soon take up the position of Prime Minister of Hungary, did not rule out arresting the Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in case he visits his country.

In response to a question at a press conference held in Budapest about whether Netanyahu would be detained if he came to Hungary, Magyar said: "I have made it clear to the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation, back in June 2020, the 'Tisa' government declared its intention to end this situation and maintain Hungary's membership in the International Criminal Court."

He added: "If someone is a member of the International Criminal Court and a wanted person enters our country, they must be detained."

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and the former Israeli Minister of War Yoav Gallant in November 2024.

Following that, the spokesperson for the European Union for Security and Foreign Relations, Peter Stano, commented that all EU member states support the International Criminal Court and must comply with its arrest warrants, including those issued against Netanyahu.

In April 2025, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced Hungary's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court after it issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu. The Prime Minister stated that the international judicial body had become a political tool. Subsequently, Netanyahu visited Budapest, where he met with Orban.
