Khaberni - Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud said that the cost of the national water carrier project has increased from about 2 billion dinars to more than 5 billion dinars, due to the expansion of the project's production capacity.
He explained that the carrying capacity increased from 100 million cubic meters to 300 million cubic meters, which directly reflected on the total cost of the project.
The minister pointed out that the government bears a significant difference in the cost of water, where the cost of producing a cubic meter is about one dinar and 90 piasters, while it is sold to citizens for only about 80 piasters.
He confirmed that this difference contributes to increasing the debt of the Water Authority, but it comes as part of a support policy aimed at relieving the burden on citizens.
