The National Water Carrier Equates Jordans Dam Capacity and Pumps 3 Times the Disi

Khaberni - The final legal technical agreement for the National Carrier project revealed that the National Carrier project will provide about 300 million cubic meters of water annually, an amount close to the total capacity of all the kingdom's dams, and is estimated to be about three times the output of the Disi project, significantly enhancing Jordan's water resources.

These quantities are expected to increase the water supply rate in the kingdom by 40% from its current state, and will help double the annual per capita water allocation from 60 to 110 cubic meters, amidst the challenges faced by the water sector.

The project will also contribute to the increase in the number of water supply days from one day to three days weekly in all provinces of the kingdom, reflecting an improvement in the level of water services for citizens.

Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan witnessed the signing of the final legal technical agreement for the National Carrier project on Tuesday, in preparation for concluding the financial closure next July.

The financial closure is scheduled to be followed by the commencement of construction and excavation work next summer, with a capital cost estimated at about 4.3 billion dollars, while the total cost of the project reaches nearly 5.8 billion dollars, including financing costs, at a time when negotiations are currently focused on calculating the inflation formula to reach the final closure.

The Jordanian National Carrier project is considered the first of its kind globally as it integrates several strategic pillars represented in: desalinating 300 million cubic meters of seawater annually, pumping systems for elevations up to 1100 meters above sea level through pipes extending for about 450 kilometers, and largely relying on renewable energy according to the latest modern and environmentally friendly technologies.
