Amman Municipality resolves the debate No monitoring of eating and drinking violations by cameras

Khaberni -  Engineer Shadi Al-Rawabdeh, the Traffic Operations Manager at the Greater Amman Municipality, settled the debate surrounding the violations of eating and drinking while driving, confirming that these violations are not monitored through the cameras spread across the streets.

Al-Rawabdeh clarified today, Tuesday, that the purpose of these clarifications is to achieve a reduction in the anxiety that drivers have experienced recently, indicating that the activation of such technical monitoring features on the automatic monitoring systems is not currently practiced.

Al-Rawabdeh pointed out that the traffic law prohibits eating and drinking for specific categories of drivers, including public vehicle drivers, buses, and kindergarten buses, due to their direct responsibility towards passengers and children.

He affirmed that the enforcement in these cases is exclusively carried out by the field traffic sergeant and not through cameras, which contributes to the reduction in the likelihood of errors in issuing violations, as the enforcement relies on direct observation by the sergeant of how this behavior affects the driver's attention and control over the vehicle.

The Traffic Operations Manager emphasized that the municipality has not activated any feature to monitor eating and drinking violations on traffic cameras, categorically denying what is being circulated about the cameras covering this type of infraction.

However, Al-Rawabdeh urged drivers of all categories to avoid any distractions while driving, to ensure a decrease in the rates of traffic accidents resulting from distracted attention, emphasizing that the driver's commitment to complete focus is the fundamental pillar for protecting lives and properties on the roads.
