Khaberni - Apple announced a change in its leadership structure, appointing John Ternus, the current Vice President for Hardware Development, as the new CEO effective from September 1, succeeding Tim Cook.
The technology giant said in an official statement: "Tim Cook will become the executive chairman of the board, and John Ternus will assume the role of Apple's CEO starting September 1, 2026."
Ternus joined Apple in 2001, and climbed the company’s corporate ladder until he became Vice President for Hardware Development. Ternus is considered the chief engineer behind many successful products, notably the iPhone Air, which has been described as "the first new iPhone in recent years," boosting his stature as one of the leading tech figures within the company.
Ternus also participated in interviews in the following weeks about this topic, indicating that he was well-prepared for this leadership position.
This change represents a gradual transition of power within the world's largest company by market value, as Tim Cook has led the company for over a decade after the death of founder Steve Jobs in 2011.
Cook is expected to remain involved in the company's broader strategy through his new role as executive chairman of the board, while Ternus will handle the day-to-day operations and the future direction of the products.
Apple was founded in 1976, and it operates in the production of personal computers, tablets, smartphones, smart watches, and software. It is considered one of the most innovative and influential companies in the history of modern technology.
