Khaberni - The medical staff at Princess Basma Hospital carried out a precise quality procedure to treat a benign bone tumor type (Osteoid Osteoma) using Radiofrequency Ablation guided by CT imaging.
This intervention was successfully performed by Dr. Mohammad Nasr Nazzal and Dr. Usman Abu Qran, specialists in interventional radiology and vascular catheterization, under the supervision and follow-up of Dr. Omar Samirat (Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist).
The medical team explained that the uniqueness of this case lies in the patient's age (14 years) as the tumor was directly located on the growth plate in the distal femur. This area is particularly sensitive because any mistake could affect the future growth of the bone which made the use of thermal ablation technology a significant challenge that required extreme precision to avoid inflicting any thermal damage to the surrounding tissues.
According to a statement from the hospital, the operation was crowned with success, the patient recovered, and her severe pain disappeared immediately after the procedure, which proves the effectiveness of modern "minimally invasive" treatments in dealing with the most complex medical cases.
The hospital director Dr. Walid Al-Halabi stated that conducting such complex operations and the sensitive location of the tumor reflect the level of advancement and expertise reached by the interventional radiology departments in the Ministry of Health hospitals, praising the efforts of the medical team including anesthesiologists, radiology technicians, nursing staff, and support personnel.
