Dispute between a Polish and an Israeli Minister following the Christ Statue incident

Khaberni  - The diplomatic tension between Poland and Israel escalated, following an exchange of harsh statements between the foreign ministers of the two countries regarding the behavior of the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip.

This comes after an Israeli soldier smashed a statue of "Jesus Christ" with a hammer after it was taken down from its place in a village in southern Lebanon, which increased the severity of criticism and angry reactions.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said, "Israeli military soldiers themselves admit to committing war crimes," adding that "they not only killed Palestinian civilians but also their prisoners."

In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar strongly rejected these statements, describing them as "baseless and offensive to the Israeli military."

He affirmed that "there is no serious democratic Western army that does not seek to benefit from the experience of the Israeli military," adding that "civilians in European countries directly benefit from the outcomes of Israeli military operations," warning against "making irresponsible statements that can ultimately lead to dire consequences."

Smashing the Christ Statue

A filmed scene of an Israeli soldier smashing the head of a statue of "Jesus Christ" with a hammer, after it was taken down from its location in a village in southern Lebanon, sparked a global wave of outrage on social media platforms. After initial skepticism about the authenticity of the picture, the Israeli military acknowledged the responsibility of its soldiers for this violation after an official investigation.

The Israeli Foreign Minister apologized for the act of one of the army soldiers causing damage to a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon, describing the incident as serious and disgraceful, and affirming that it contradicts the values based on respect for religions and their sacred symbols.

The Israeli military acknowledged that one of its soldiers smashed the statue of "Jesus Christ" in southern Lebanon, and clarified - in a statement - that after completing the initial examination of the circulated image of a soldier touching a Christian symbol, "it turned out to be real documentation of an Israeli military soldier operating in the southern Lebanese region."
