Khaberni - The European Commission has proposed a full resumption of the cooperation agreement signed with Syria in 1978, in a step aimed at enhancing cooperation before the holding of formal talks with the Syrian authorities in May.
Syria , which had most Western sanctions lifted at the end of last year, seeks to increase its integration into the international community under the leadership of President Ahmad al-Shar'.
Syria also stands out as a vital transit point, especially in light of the energy crisis resulting from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran war.
The proposal will require formal adoption by the European Council.
