Egyptian Judiciary Upholds Fine Against Amr Diab in Slapping Case

Khaberni - The Egyptian Court of Cassation has ruled to reject the appeal filed by the artist Amr Diab in the "slapping" case, upholding the ruling to fine him 200 Egyptian pounds, thus finally closing one of the cases that sparked widespread controversy in artistic and media circles recently.

In its final ruling, the court confirmed the imposition of the financial penalty on the artist, stemming from an incident that occurred during a wedding ceremony in Cairo, where he was accused of assaulting a young man, Saad Osama, after a video documenting the incident was widely circulated on social media.

The details of the incident date back to a recorded clip showing the artist slapping a young man who tried to take a "selfie" with him, prompting the public prosecution to refer both parties to trial on charges of mutual assault.

During the legal proceedings, the Court of Cassation ruled to reject the appeal and uphold the initial ruling, confirming the correctness of the procedures and the absence of any legal error or deficiency in reasoning.

In the trial sessions, the artist's defense team argued that what happened was a spontaneous reaction, not an intentional assault, noting that the young man had suddenly grabbed him during the event, which caused an automatic reaction to push him away.

Amr Diab also denied the accusations during the investigations, insisting that the incident had been exaggerated on social media, and that the aim of its publication was to chase "trends" and achieve widespread publicity.
