Egypt Threatens Those Who Refuse to Pay Spousal Support

Khaberni - The Public Prosecutor in Egypt, Counselor Mohamed Shawky, has decided to list those convicted with final criminal judgments that are enforceable because of their refusal to pay the adjudicated expenses, on the travel ban and arrival monitoring lists.
This procedure comes to enforce the finality of court rulings, safeguard the rights of the benefited parties, especially concerning the rights of wives and children, as these are among the rights guaranteed by the law and surrounded by special guarantees to protect and preserve them.

The Public Prosecutor urgently calls on those convicted in these cases to promptly settle the adjudicated amounts; to avoid facing other legal procedures that the law authorizes against them.

The Public Prosecutor confirms its ongoing commitment to taking all legal measures necessary to enforce judicial rulings, uphold the rule of law, and protect legally established rights.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has brought the issue of personal status law amendments back to the forefront.

El-Sisi directed the rapid preparation of a new law, a move that came less than 24 hours after an incident where a woman committed suicide due to family disputes, lending a significant human and social momentum to the legal discussion.

This directive aims to break the relative stagnation that has persisted in this file since 2022, when el-Sisi emphasized the necessity of community dialogue before any issuance, rejecting previous versions that had sparked wide debate among legal and community forces.
