Khaberni - The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on urban activity and building permits in the Kingdom, where the total number of building permits issued in the Kingdom was 4,199 during the first two months of 2026, compared with 3,329 permits during the same period in 2025, an increase of 26%.
The total area of licensed buildings was 1.42 million m2 in 2026, compared with 1.52 million m2 during the first two months of 2025, a decrease of 6.6%.
In terms of licensing purposes, the area licensed for residential purposes was about 1.27 million m2 for the first two months of 2026 compared with 1.12 million m2 during the same period in 2025, an increase of 13.4%, while the area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes was 159 thousand m2, compared with 402 thousand m2 during the same period in 2025, a decrease of 60%. Residential purposes accounted for 89% of the total licensed building area and 11% for non-residential purposes.
At the regional level, the Central Region accounted for 65.9% of the total licensed building area in the Kingdom during 2026, a decrease of 2.7%)% during the same period in 2025, while the Northern Region accounted for 27.8%, an increase of 34.3%, and the Southern Region 6.3%, a decrease of 45% during the same period in 2025.
Regarding the relative distribution of licensed areas for residential purposes by governorates, Jerash Governorate recorded the highest percentage at 14.4%, with an area of 0.159 m2 per capita, while Zarqa Governorate recorded the lowest percentage of new licensed space per capita at 3.4%, with an area of 0.038 m2 per capita.
