AlAzhar Warns Against Exploiting the Niqab to Commit Crimes

Khaberni - Abbas Shouman, the Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars at Al-Azhar in Egypt, said that the use of the niqab by some corrupt men and women for disguise and committing crimes can be treated by taking steps to verify the identities of the wearers.
He wrote on his Facebook account commenting on a post: The niqab is worn by virtuous women seeking modesty and protection even though it is not obligatory for them, and this is truly commendable and is a matter of personal freedom. The misuse of the niqab by some corrupt individuals for disguise and committing crimes can be addressed by verifying the identities of those wearing it, and there is no need to demand its prohibition, for the general practice of wearing the niqab seeks legitimate modesty.

Shouman also wrote on his Facebook account: As usual, we leave the problem and search on the lesser important side: we have abandoned exploring the causes of suicide and how to deal with it, and we argue over the niqab, which is neither obligatory nor prohibited.

The administration of Al Hussein University Hospital in Egypt, affiliated with Al-Azhar, decided to organize the entrance of veiled women and inspect them in a designated room to prevent an incident similar to the abduction of a newborn from the hospital.

The administration of Al Hussein Hospital in its first statement after the return of the newborn said: In an impressive humane scene mixed with feelings of anxiety and prayers, which then turned into overwhelming joy that spread throughout the Egyptian street, the efforts of the Egyptian state succeeded in returning a newborn girl to her family, after an incident that aroused public opinion and dominated social media, becoming the talk of the hour.

Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, also called for the presence of female security personnel in the departments of women and childbirth, following the incident of a newborn being abducted by a veiled woman at Al Hussein University Hospital.
