Khaberni - A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday that his country is concerned about the United States intercepting a cargo ship flying the Iranian flag and urged the concerned parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in a responsible manner.
The spokesperson Gou Jia Kun added, "The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is complex and sensitive," emphasizing that the concerned parties should avoid further escalation "and create the necessary conditions for resuming normal transit through the strait."
The United States earlier on Monday said it had fired upon and detained an Iranian cargo ship after it attempted to breach the blockade on Iranian ports. The Iranian military stated that the ship was coming from China and vowed to respond to what it described as "armed piracy by the US military."
Concerns increased on Monday about the potential collapse of the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran after the United States announced it had detained an Iranian cargo ship that tried to breach the blockade imposed on Iranian ports, which promised to retaliate against that.
Efforts to achieve a more durable peace in the region seemed on shaky ground, as Iran announced it would send a delegation to Islamabad for talks if positive signals were received from the United States.
