Egyptian Diplomat Resolves Debate Over Fate of Doctor Missing in the UAE

Khaberni - An Egyptian diplomat and a lawyer have resolved the fate of the missing doctor, Diaa Al-Awadi, who has been missing for several days, around whom there has been widespread debate and uncertainty following his disappearance after traveling to Dubai, UAE.
The debate escalated after Al-Awadi's lawyer and his family released a statement on Friday about his disappearance and the loss of communication with him for several days, then a report by Cairo 24 website announced the doctor's death, although the family and his lawyer denied it and threatened legal action against the "rumors," before later retracting.
The official Egyptian news agency "Ahram Online" quoted Ambassador Haddad Al-Jouhari, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs, confirming the death of Dr. Diaa Al-Awadi abroad, stating that his body would be shipped to Egypt as soon as all necessary procedures are completed.

Al-Jouhari stated in a statement to the Middle East News Agency "Ahram Online" on Sunday evening, that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received confirmed news today from the Egyptian consulate in Dubai about the death of Dr. Diaa Al-Awadi.

He added that the Dubai authorities informed the Egyptian consulate of Al-Awadi's death. He was found deceased in a hotel in Dubai, and his body was transferred to a hospital to determine the cause of death.

He mentioned that the Egyptian consulate in Dubai is coordinating with the UAE authorities to obtain the death certificate and ascertain the cause of death.

Al-Jouhari confirmed that he personally communicated with Al-Awadi’s family lawyer, and that he would meet the deceased doctor’s wife and the lawyer at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in the new capital to offer condolences and officially notify them of the death and acquaint them with all the details and complete the procedures for shipping the body to Egypt.

For his part, Mustafa Majid, lawyer of Diaa Al-Awadi, confirmed the recent death news after initially denying it, explaining that Al-Awadi died in the UAE, and that the cause of death is still unknown.

He clarified that the deceased had been missing since last Sunday, and there was no available information about him at the authorities, ruling out any possibility of suicide.

The late doctor was well-known over the past years for his unique approaches in weight loss and diabetes treatment, which had stirred much controversy.

In March, the Medical Syndicate dropped his membership because of publishing misleading medical information and unscientifically substantiated treatments on social media, posing a risk to public health, and he was accused of promoting unapproved treatment methods for chronic diseases, which the disciplinary body of the syndicate considered a serious violation of professional principles.
