Khaberni - The head of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Ayman Abu Hania, predicted on Sunday that Jordan would achieve gas self-sufficiency by the year 2029.
Abu Hania stated that there are promising discoveries of natural gas in the Risha field, noting that the gas project law had allowed many investors to invest in this sector.
He saw that achieving self-sufficiency in energy is now very imminent, explaining that Jordan relies on gas for 60% of its energy generation, 27% on alternative energy, and 17% on oil shale.
He added that the Parliamentary Energy Committee had been working on reducing the cost of energy for all sectors, emphasizing its commitment to implementing projects and laws approved in the House of Representatives, such as the Electricity and Storage Law.
Abu Hania delved into the topic of energy storage, explaining that it was costly in the past, but, thanks to modern technology, there is now optimal utilisation of energy.
Regarding the draft law ratifying the executive agreement for the evaluation, development, and exploitation of copper and associated minerals in the Abu Khashiba area, which was passed by the House of Representatives by a majority vote, he explained that the mining issue requires many years and high investments, but noted that having agreements is a good step.
He stated that what is important in this agreement is that it prevents the export of copper as raw material, but instead, it focuses on manufacturing industries that preserve many industries such as cables and connectors.
The House of Representatives passed by a majority vote the draft law ratifying the executive agreement for the evaluation, development, and exploitation of copper and associated minerals in the Abu Khashiba area.
This took place during a session held on Sunday, chaired by the President of the House, Mazen Al-Qadi, and attended by the Prime Minister, Jaafar Hassan, and members of the government team.
