Khaberni - NBC reported, citing local police, that on Sunday evening, 8 children were killed in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The American network reported that Shreveport police officers responded to a report of a family argument in the 300 block of West 79th Street shortly after six in the morning.
Police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon described the crime scene as "extensive," spreading to two houses in the area and a third house on the adjacent Harrison Street.
Bordelon said during a press conference that 10 people were shot, eight of whom died, ranging in age from one to fourteen years old.
Bordelon added, "The shooter, upon leaving the scene, stole a car near the corner of West 79th Street and Linwood, at which point Shreveport police patrols pursued the vehicle in a chase."
Bordelon confirmed that the officers shot and killed the suspect during the pursuit.
The police spokesperson mentioned that authorities believe he was the only person who fired shots.
The police did not reveal any information about the suspect, but Bordelon said that some of the children in the homes "were his descendants," and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
