Cabinet Approves Justifications for an Amended Cybersecurity Law

Khaberni - The Cabinet decided on Sunday to approve the justifications for the draft amendment to the Cybersecurity Law for the year 2026.

The decision is part of legislation related to modernizing the public sector and enhancing the work of institutions.

The purpose of the bill is to keep up with rapid technological and digital advancements. This will be achieved by updating fundamental concepts in cyber and space security and incorporating definitions of new technologies.

It also aims to develop the roles of the National Cybersecurity Center by boosting its capabilities in supporting scientific research and development and establishing necessary controls and standards to regulate the use of new technologies and future technologies within the cybersecurity system; to ensure their security and minimize emerging risks.

The bill works on developing mechanisms for detecting emerging cyber threats, enhancing the role of the National Cybersecurity Council in monitoring center activities and performance, defining sectoral response teams and their operational mechanisms, and building national capabilities in cybersecurity in partnership with the National Cybersecurity Center and the National Academy of Government Management.

The bill achieves greater efficiency in resource management and enhances the protection of the digital economy, thus increasing investment and boosting private sector confidence.

The amended bill also contributes to enhancing the level of data protection for citizens and boosting trust in digital government services, which positively reflects on service usage and increasing confidence in their use.
