Industry and Trade Issues Violations Against Commercial Facilities for Not Displaying Prices

Khaberni - The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply confirmed that it has not detected or received any reports or complaints from citizens about monopolistic activities or sales refusals in the markets during the past period, indicating that local markets are experiencing stability in the availability of various goods in sufficient quantities, despite global circumstances and disruptions in supply chains.

The ministry explained in a statement today, Sunday, that it continues to intensify its supervisory tours of the markets, having issued 189 violations against commercial facilities that failed to comply with the provisions of the Industry and Trade Law and related legislation, from the beginning of April until the 18th of the same month, the most notable of which were 151 violations related to the non-disclosure of prices.

The ministry added that the violations also included 12 instances of selling at a price different from the announced price, and 15 cases of selling at prices higher than the set price.

The ministry pointed out that the Market Monitoring Directorate dealt with 138 complaints from citizens through various channels, where necessary actions were taken to address them, reflecting the responsiveness and effectiveness of monitoring.

The supervisory teams belonging to the ministry conducted 277 inspection tours, involving 4613 visits to commercial facilities in various provinces of the kingdom, aiming to ensure their compliance with the instructions and systems in place.

The ministry confirmed that the Market Monitoring Directorate continues to implement the provisions of the Industry and Trade Law No. 18 of 1998, which includes monitoring the availability and prices of key food items, verifying price announcements and compliance, monitoring wholesale traders' stocks, as well as controlling practices related to hiding goods or refusing to sell them, and monitoring discounts, clearances, and promotional offers.
