Khaberni - Minister of Transport Nidal Al-Qatamin held a bilateral meeting via video communication technology (Zoom) with the Minister of Transport and Logistic Services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, during which they discussed ways to enhance cooperation in land, sea, and air transport sectors, in the context of the existing agreements between the two countries.
The discussions focused on mechanisms to develop the railway connection project as a pivotal project in enhancing economic integration and facilitating the movement of trade and supply chains among the concerned countries, which contributes to connecting regional markets and increasing the efficiency of the transport system.
During the meeting, Al-Qatamin emphasized the strategic importance of the regional railway connection project, stressing the readiness of the Ministry of Transport, with all its technical and administrative staff, to provide full support and follow up on necessary requirements, which ensures moving forward in implementing the project and achieving its development and economic goals, and enhancing Jordan's position as a regional logistic center.
On his part, the Saudi Minister of Transport, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, called for the formation of a joint committee including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Syria, to study the proposed routes and lines for the railway connection, focusing on the Jabir – Al Omari axis as a main connection point, alongside preparing a comprehensive vision that includes technical, economic, and operational aspects, and raising the recommendations to the concerned authorities to make the appropriate decision.
Al-Jasser stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has an advanced railway network that spans about 5,500 km, noting that it extends to the Jordanian border, which enhances the chances of efficiently implementing the project in the future.
The two sides agreed at the end of the meeting to immediately commence the work of the specialized technical committees, to hold consecutive meetings to discuss the technical and operational aspects of the project, and to prepare the necessary studies and executive visions, which ensures moving forward in the railway connection project according to the approved technical foundations.
