The spokesperson for the General Security Directorate stated that a report was received by the Tafilah Police Directorate on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from the family of a person (the young Saif Al-Khawalda) regarding his disappearance a few days ago under mysterious circumstances, whereupon a special and joint investigation team was immediately formed to handle the inquiry into the case, and a general search for the person was conducted.
The spokesperson confirmed that the investigation team, through investigations and gathering information and tracking the person's whereabouts, suspected that he might have been murdered. The suspicion was confined to one of the missing person's friends and relatives, who was proven by investigations to be the last one to meet with him and accompany him.
The spokesperson continued that the suspect was apprehended and during the interrogation, he confessed that while he was with the missing person at a tourist lodge in a remote area, a sudden dispute occurred between them, prompting him to hit the victim with a stone on the head, resulting in his death. He then burned the victim's body to obliterate the traces of the crime and informed his brother about it, who helped him hide the crime scene.
The spokesperson indicated that parts of the body were found based on his direction, and the case was referred to the public prosecutor at the Grand Criminal Court, who ordered his detention for 15 days at the correction and rehabilitation center on the charge of premeditated murder, and also ordered the detention of the killer's brother for 15 days on the charge of involvement in the murder.
