Apple plans to reduce costs of the basic iPhone 18

Khaberni - Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 18 series at the beginning of next year, amid reports that it is heading to reduce the production costs of the basic version, by adopting manufacturing technologies closer to the mid-range iPhone 18e.

According to these reports, the standard iPhone 18 might share a number of manufacturing aspects with the “18e” version, in light of the increasing pressures experienced globally in the technology sector.

A components crisis is pressing on companies
This move comes at a time when the sector faces significant challenges, the most notable being the sharp rise in memory prices, due to increased demand from artificial intelligence data centers, versus limited supply.

This, in turn, has reflected on the costs of other components, prompting companies to look for solutions to reduce expenses, according to a report published by "phonearena".

Simpler manufacturing... and lower cost
According to the report, Apple plans to adopt less complex manufacturing processes in the basic version of the iPhone 18, making its assembly method closer to that of the iPhone 18e compared to Pro and Pro Max versions.

This approach aims to reduce the overall production cost, but it may also reflect on some technical aspects or the quality of manufacturing, albeit to a limited extent.

What does this mean for the user?
So far, there are no confirmed details about the actual effects of this step, but expectations suggest several possibilities, including:

- Keeping the same iPhone 17 screen without notable upgrades.

- The basic version not receiving the smaller Dynamic Island design expected in the Pro category.

- Using a less powerful processor or a reduced performance version.

- Relying on cheaper manufacturing materials.

Despite these indications, observers believe that these changes – if they occur – may not be noticeable to the average user, especially since Apple usually insists on maintaining a balanced user experience even in its lower-priced devices.

In the midst of increasing competition and rising costs, it seems that the company is heading to redistribute features among its device categories without compromising the image of its leading products in the market.
