Greater Amman Municipality Camera Locations Selected Based on Accident and Dangerous Violation Studies

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Greater Amman Municipality, Nasser Rahamneh, mentioned that the activation of the new camera and radar system is intended to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.

Rahamneh explained on Sunday that the municipality started operating the system today, Sunday, stating that "its philosophy and basis is to preserve public safety and the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and property," according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

He added that the cameras and radars were placed in locations that were announced with "very clear addresses," aiming to raise public awareness of their presence and enhance compliance with traffic rules.

He clarified that the system includes speed cameras and average speed cameras (point to point), in addition to traffic light cameras, noting the existence of 9 speed measuring locations between two points on Airport Street and Jordan Street, and 20 traffic light cameras, and 21 speed radars.

Rahamneh further explained that the system will be fully operational by the 28th of this month, with gradual operation continuing over the coming days.

He emphasized that the main goal of these measures is "traffic safety, not violation," pointing out that compliance with traffic rules, such as wearing seat belts and not using mobile phones while driving, has seen noticeable improvement.

He indicated that the installation of this system was based on extensive traffic studies that identified areas with high incidents of dangerous violations, such as running red lights, speeding, and encroaching on pedestrian lanes.

He confirmed that this step is part of the efforts of the Greater Amman Municipality to promote a culture of traffic behavior and to protect citizens on the roads.

The Greater Amman Municipality began, as of today, Sunday, operating traffic violation radars on a number of main streets within its boundaries, as part of its efforts to enhance traffic safety and reduce accidents.

According to a statement issued by the municipality, the operation of these radars is part of an integrated plan to improve compliance with traffic rules and control dangerous violations such as speeding, red light running, and sudden lane changes at traffic lights, in addition to stopping or parking on pedestrian crossings.

The statement clarified that the municipality selected radar locations based on field traffic studies targeting the points most prone to accidents and congestion.

It noted that the complete operation of all project components is scheduled within this month until April 28, which include 20 radars, traffic light cameras, and Point To Point cameras for calculating and controlling average speed.

The municipality has enhanced all the mentioned locations with clear traffic signs that specify the designated speeds for each axis, ensuring that drivers are forewarned and increasing their compliance with traffic rules.
