Khaberni - Fatima Mahfouz, daughter of the late author Najeeb Mahfouz, continues her criticism of the artist Amro Saad's statements regarding his ownership of the rights to re-show the novel "The Thief and the Dogs," which her father wrote and was turned into a film in the 1960s starring Shukri Sarhan and Shadia.
Najeeb Mahfouz's daughter expressed her severe displeasure due to Amro Saad's continued statements about acquiring the rights to the novel and re-presenting it in a cinematic work, explaining that there was a contract with preliminary approval for two years on her novels "The Thief and the Dogs" and "Children of Gebelawi" in 2020, confirming that the approval period has ended and that the official contract was on "Children of Gebelawi" along with producer Sadek El Sabah and Amro Saad.
Najeeb Mahfouz's daughter stated in a new statement: "Mr. Amro Saad caused me a problem and claimed he had the rights to 'The Thief and the Dogs,' which is not true. It's disgraceful for me to give the rights to multiple people at the same time. In 2020, there was preliminary approval, and a condition was that he brings a producer I agree with. At that time, he brought producer Sadek El Sabah, without whose presence he wouldn't have obtained the rights to the novel 'Children of Gebelawi.'"
Najeeb Mahfouz's daughter: Amro Saad did not talk about the novel "The Thief and the Dogs"
She added: "Amro Saad didn’t speak about 'The Thief and the Dogs,' and even if a contract existed, its term has expired as it was only two years. If he has a contract for the rights to 'The Thief and the Dogs,' he should publish it. He’s upset because I'm publishing the truth that Mariam Naoum, who has the rights, which is unfortunate. I have had reservations ever since I dealt with him and have decided not to deal with him again."
