The Municipality announces the success of the project Amman is planted with cameras full details

Khaberni – The Greater Amman Municipality announced the start of a modern system to monitor traffic violations in a number of main streets, within an integrated project aimed at enhancing traffic safety and improving the flow of movement in the capital.

According to the municipality, the project includes the operation of radars and smart cameras to monitor dangerous violations such as speeding, running red lights, using the phone while driving, and changing lanes suddenly, in addition to parking violations in prohibited places.

Traffic Operations Director Engineer Shadi Al-Rawabdeh emphasized that the project represents a qualitative shift in the traffic monitoring system, stressing that the primary goal is to promote a culture of compliance and prevention of accidents, not just issuing violations.

In this context, the Executive Director of Traffic, Engineer Mohammed Jadua, revealed an ambitious plan to install 5,500 smart surveillance cameras in various parts of the capital by 2026, as part of the vision of "Amman the Smart City".

He explained that the first phase, which started in 2025, included the installation of 2,500 cameras in vital locations, with the second phase to complete by installing an additional 3,000 cameras during the second half of 2026.

Jadua pointed out that the cameras will rely on artificial intelligence technologies to monitor violations and manage traffic immediately, by monitoring congestion and taking swift actions such as adjusting the timing of signals or directing patrols.

He clarified that the project is not limited to monitoring violations, but includes smart management of traffic flow, with an emphasis on protecting the privacy of citizens through image distorting technologies, where monitoring is limited only to the violating driver.

With this step, Amman enters a new phase of smart traffic monitoring, as part of a broader move towards digital transformation and the development of infrastructure for services in the city.
