Khaberni - The Kuwaiti authorities announced the withdrawal of nationality from the artist and composer Abdul Qader Al-Hadhood and director Ahmed Ryan, as part of "3 new royal decrees" that included 2182 people, "in addition to persons who acquired it with them by dependency from spouses and children."
According to the official Kuwait Today newspaper, the decisions primarily target cases that obtained citizenship by dependency or based on legal provisions currently under reevaluation, in the context of stricter amendments to the Kuwaiti nationality law, amid government efforts to "organize the national identity" and correct what the authorities describe as historical imbalances in this file.
Abdul Qader Al-Hadhood belongs to the category of sons of Kuwaiti women, as he was born to an Egyptian father and a Kuwaiti mother, and subsequently obtained citizenship on this basis. He is recognized as a prominent name in the Kuwaiti and Gulf cultural scene, contributing to the composition and production of several contemporary musical works. In his first comment on the decision, he posted on his account on the X platform a brief statement saying: "Listening and obedience," accompanied by the flag of Kuwait, indicating his acceptance of the decision.
For his part, director Ahmed Ryan announced the withdrawal of his nationality in the same manner, explaining that the decision was issued according to "Article Five" related to the children of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis, and wrote: "The announcement of the withdrawal of my Kuwaiti nationality... Praise to Allah for every blessing, it is for the best, God willing."
These decisions are part of a broader governmental trend that began in 2024, aimed at a comprehensive review of the citizenship file, including cases suspected of having obtained it by means not meeting the conditions, or through reassessed clauses, such as "noble deeds" and citizenship by dependency. These reviews have affected multiple categories, including sons of Kuwaiti women, foreign wives of Kuwaiti men, in addition to cases dating back to previous decades.
The Kuwaiti Minister of Interior and the head of the Supreme Committee for Nationality Verification, Fahad Yousuf Saud Al-Sabah, confirmed in previous statements that these measures come within the context of "correcting the legal path," noting that those from whom nationality is withdrawn will continue to enjoy benefits they acquired during their time as nationals, within the limits prescribed by law.
The withdrawal decisions also included other names, among them preacher Nabil Al-Awadi, whose nationality was previously withdrawn in 2014 before being reinstated in 2018, only to be listed again in the latest listings.
