Khaberni - The American soccer league is considering a step that could radically transform its commercial identity by not renewing its exclusive partnership with Adidas after 2030, in a decision that could end a relationship spanning more than a quarter century since 2004, when the German company was the sole official supplier for all league clubs.
Media personality Luis Carlos Largo from ESPN has stated that this partnership is among the longest and most significant agreements in the world of soccer, as Adidas helped unify the visual identity of the American league and provided commercial and marketing stability for the clubs.
He added that with the accelerated growth of the league and its increasing market value, the management of the American soccer league is studying more flexible and profitable options.
According to the same source: "The current deliberations present two main scenarios, the first is contracting with a new brand to be the exclusive supplier for all clubs, with Nike being one of the top contenders. The second scenario would provide clubs the freedom to choose their suppliers individually, similar to major European leagues, which could lead to greater diversity in designs and increased commercial returns for each club."
He mentioned that if the final decision is made not to renew, it would be a historic turning point in the trajectory of the American soccer league, reflecting its ambition to keep up with global models and enhance its competitiveness both sports-wise and commercially, especially with the growing interest in soccer in the United States before hosting the 2026 World Cup.
According to Sportico, the sponsorship deal between Adidas and the American soccer league is worth $830 million, marking the largest investment by the company in the history of soccer in North America, spanning a 6-year period, with the renewal announced in February 2023 to continue until the end of 2030.
Under the agreement, Adidas remains the official and sole supplier of all gear for the league's 30 clubs, including footwear, training apparel, and the official game ball.
