Khaberni - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing began on Saturday the project dedicated to the maintenance and rehabilitation of the most damaged parts of the Baghdad International Road in the area extending from Al-Ruwaished to Al-Safawi, with an approximate length of 9 km.
This step is a realization of the ministry's approach aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the vital road network and keeping pace with the urban expansion and economic growth experienced by the kingdom, focusing on improving infrastructure to minimize traffic congestion, boost public safety levels, and facilitate movement between different regions.
The total cost of this project is estimated at about 2 million dinars, with direct funding from the ministry, and the construction work is scheduled to continue for 150 working days according to the approved timetable, to include comprehensive maintenance of parts that have deteriorated technically due to high traffic loads, using the latest asphalt mixtures, scraping the damaged layers, and fully rehabilitating them, in addition to implementing technical treatments and precise patching of the worn surfaces and equipping the road with all safety elements like paints and reflectors to ensure its long-term durability and structural safety.
The ministry adopted a system of partial traffic diversions to ensure the continuity of movement without the need to close the road, with traffic being alternately diverted to one of the lanes while work is carried out in the other lane in an organized manner, reinforced by all safety means according to international standards.
The ministry calls on citizens to fully cooperate and adhere to the guidance of the field teams, the executing contractor’s personnel, and the Directorate of Public Security to ensure the project is completed with the highest possible quality and with the least impact on daily traffic flow.
