Khaberni - The city of Saint Catherine in South Sinai, Egypt experienced a violent and unexpected wave of sharp weather changes, resulting in heavy flood flows through several main valleys.
The South Sinai governorate announced a state of maximum readiness to face any incidents, confirming that the floods crossed the valleys of "Shaqeera", "Al-Sa'al", and "Al-Farajah", and the flows are proceeding in their natural courses and streams without any notable obstacles.
In a notably heroic act, the efforts of the executive authorities in close cooperation with the locals successfully rescued three passengers who were aboard a bus that had veered off course due to the force of the devastating floods while crossing the area of Sa'al Catherine.
Collaboration between authorities and citizens
The rescue operation came as a result of a swift and outstanding response, in full harmony involving the city authority, police forces, and traffic officers, supported by heavy equipment provided by the citizens present at the location.
The governor of South Sinai issued urgent directives to form a specialized committee charged with an accurate and complete assessment of all losses caused by the flood wave in preparation for taking necessary actions, whether through urgent infrastructure repairs or immediate disbursement of compensations to the affected parties.
Khamaseen desert depression
These days, Egypt is experiencing sharp fluctuations as it is affected by the extension of a Khamaseen desert depression, which caused a significant rise in temperatures yesterday, followed by a sudden drop with the formation of cumulonimbus thunderclouds over the Red Sea mountain chains and South Sinai.
The Meteorological Authority warned of moderate to heavy thundery rains focused on the Gulf of Suez and Aqaba, turning into floods in mountainous areas like Saint Catherine due to the geographical nature that gathers rainwater in the valleys.
