Decline in Oil Prices Amid Optimism for Easing Tensions in the Middle East

Khaberni - Oil prices declined today, Friday, with growing optimism for easing tensions in the Middle East, and the possibility of resuming US-Iranian talks soon.

Brent crude futures dropped 0.62 percent to $98.77 per barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 0.98 percent to $93.76 per barrel, reducing the gains made in the previous session, according to the economic site Bloomberg.

Oil prices experienced a record rise during March, jumping about 50 percent, before recently falling to below $100 per barrel, with prices remaining in the ninety-dollar range this week.

In a related context, Fatih Birol, director of the International Energy Agency, said that restoring the energy production lost in the Middle East due to the war there would take about two years.
