Itchy feet may reveal serious diseases

Khaberni - Doctors warn against ignoring recurrent itchy feet, as it may be an indicator of chronic diseases such as diabetes, liver, and kidney, necessitating a medical examination.

Specialists warn that some minor symptoms, such as recurrent itchy feet, may not just be a passing condition, but could reflect the presence of deeper health issues that require attention and medical follow-up.

Although skin itching is a common symptom usually associated with simple factors such as dry skin, cold weather, or insect bites, its persistence for long periods or its occurrence without a clear cause may indicate underlying diseases.

Medical reports, including those published by Healthline, indicate that the feet are among the areas most prone to this condition, where itching can be associated with a number of chronic diseases, notably diabetes, liver and kidney diseases.

In the case of diabetes, itching can result from elevated blood sugar levels over long periods, or due to complications such as nerve damage, and often comes with other symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and vision disturbances.

As for liver diseases, they can cause significant itching especially in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, and it may worsen in some cases at night or with higher temperatures. Symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, and yellowing of the skin and eyes may accompany it.

Regarding kidney diseases, itching is more pronounced in patients in advanced stages or those undergoing dialysis, due to the accumulation of toxins in the body, and often accompanied by limb swelling, general fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

Doctors advise the necessity of consulting a specialist in case the itching persists without a clear reason, or if it is accompanied by other symptoms, to accurately determine the cause and obtain appropriate treatment, and avoid the development of any potential health complications.
