Khaberni - Armed men, on Thursday, held 25 people hostage for two hours inside a bank in central Naples, southern Italy, according to reports from the Italian National Gendarmerie (Carabinieri) «French Press Agency». The hostages were later released without any injuries, while the armed men managed to escape.
The gendarmerie explained that the robbers, numbering 3, one of whom was «certainly armed», stormed into a branch of «Credit Agricole» bank at Piazza Medaglie d'Oro in Naples around 11:30 AM.
They added that they held the customers and employees present, numbering 25 people, before releasing them around 1:30 PM without any of them being injured, according to the same source.
The governor of Naples, Michele Di Bari, said in a statement on Thursday: «Thanks to the swift intervention and operational coordination between the various units deployed and the exemplary management of the situation, all the hostages were released shortly after 1:30 PM without any serious injuries».
According to the gendarmerie, it is suspected that the kidnappers managed to escape through a hole they dug in the ground.
For its part, the «Credit Agricole» bank confirmed to the «French Press Agency» and the security forces that the robbery occurred and all the hostages were released by the security forces.
