Khaberni - Fatih Birol, the director of the International Energy Agency, warned that Europe might face a severe shortage of aviation fuel in the coming weeks, due to ongoing disruptions of energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the American war against Iran.
In an interview with "Associated Press" on Thursday, he explained that European stocks of aviation fuel would last about only 6 weeks, suggesting the possibility of some flight cancellations soon if the disruption continues.
Birol confirmed that the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz to oil and gas shipments would lead to a rise in fuel and electricity prices globally, with varying impacts among countries, where Asian countries would be the most affected in the initial phase due to their heavy reliance on Middle Eastern supplies.
He added that the repercussions of the crisis would later extend to Europe and the Americas, cautioning that persisting current conditions would strain economic growth and increase inflation rates globally.
