Khaberni - Shadi Al Majali, head of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, said on Thursday that the ports in Aqaba are operating at excellent capacity, adding that since the first of April until today, one million tons of goods have been handled.
In his talk with "Al Mamlaka," he added that the Aqaba Port has contracts with Qatar and Iraq in the field of handling, in addition to some containers destined for Syria, clarifying that the numbers are increasing and the work will continue in the coming days.
Regarding Iraqi oil, he said that the authority has not received any official request to export Iraqi oil, explaining that the port has a certain capacity for export.
He explained that there are vegetable oils being imported to Iraq through Aqaba.
Regarding the Aqaba Port railway project, Al Majali confirmed that signing the agreement of the Aqaba Port railway project is a distinctive move that will shift the special economic zone to a new economic phase, especially in relation to supply chains and regional trade, particularly in the phosphate and potash sectors.
Al Majali pointed out that Aqaba has become an attraction point for regional trade lines, in the context of diversifying transport routes and cooperating with neighboring countries.
He emphasized that the next phase will witness a qualitative leap with the commencement of the railway project in the next five years, which will enhance Aqaba's competitiveness as a regional logistical hub serving Jordan and neighboring countries.
