Judicial Development Reopens Saad Lamjarreds Extortion Case File

Khaberni - The extortion case related to Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred has entered a new judicial phase after the French public prosecutor announced an appeal against the recent verdict, which acquitted Laura Prioul of the charge of attempted extortion.

The decision to appeal reopens the case file once again after the Paris court previously considered the evidence insufficient to convict Prioul of forming a criminal gang to obtain financial sums in exchange for retracting her statements.

Following this development, the case will be referred to the appellate court to re-examine the file from all aspects, including reviewing the evidence and re-listening to the defense's arguments, amidst the persistence of Lamjarred's defense team that there are indications of attempted financial extortion.

The upcoming sessions aim to resolve the controversy over whether there were organized attempts to financially exploit the case, or whether the initial verdict of acquittal was based on a precise legal assessment.

In a related development, the main accused had filed a complaint against her lawyer for breach of trust, while the latter responded by revealing new details, indicating that a person named “Siko.M,” who is imprisoned in another case, was the alleged mastermind behind trying to obtain 3 million euros from the Moroccan artist.

Demands for stricter penalties
Concurrent with the proceedings, the French public prosecutor demanded varying punishments for the involved parties, including imprisonment and financial fines, as well as permanently barring one of the accused from practicing law.

The judicial demands also included penalties against several other defendants, ranging from suspended prison sentences to financial fines, based on their involvement in circulating the Moroccan artist's personal contact details.
