Minister of Agriculture Agricultural exports recorded a record number last year

Khaberni - Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khreisat confirmed on Thursday that agricultural exports recorded a record figure last year, reaching 1.680 billion dinars, an increase of 150 million dinars compared to 2024.

In his talk with "Al-Mamlaka", he added that the self-sufficiency rate of agricultural crops (vegetables and fruits), and some animal products like white meats (poultry) and table eggs, reached 61.8%.

He explained that a large amount of agricultural products are currently being delivered to the markets, which has led to a decrease in prices.

Khreisat affirmed that the agricultural sector in Jordan is considered a success story despite the limited natural resources, pointing out that it effectively contributes to enhancing food security through diversifying agricultural, animal, and food industries.

Khreisat said that Jordan is working on enhancing local production and reducing dependence on imports through strategic importing that mitigates risks associated with fluctuations in the global markets.

He added that this achievement came as a result of the abundance of agricultural production and improved efficiency of supply chains, noting that the strategic stock of wheat and barley suffices for a period ranging between 9 and 10 months, which is considered within international standards.

He pointed out that the government follows procedures to enhance food security and maintain the strategic stock of essential goods, ensuring the continuity of supplies under various conditions.

Regarding supply chains and foreign trade, he affirmed that the Aqaba port is operating at full capacity without interruption, noting the diversification of export and import routes through road transport and regional cooperation, including through Syria to Turkey and Europe, in addition to adopting alternative logistical routes to enhance the fluidity of trade movement.
