Khaberni - Adnan Al-Swaireh, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Region Development Authority, said on Thursday that the tourist situation in the city of Petra is challenging due to the absence of foreign tourism.
Al-Swaireh told "Al-Mamlaka" channel that the government responded to the requests of the Petra Region Authority regarding establishing infrastructure works in preparation for the coming season, indicating that there are two projects in Petra that need governmental support; the first is the emergency road project "the circular route", which aims to allow tourists to see as many sites in Petra as possible.
He added that there is another project aimed at developing the areas surrounding the city of Petra, noting that the project cost is 3.8 million, with the authority covering half of the amount in 2027.
Al-Swaireh pointed out that Petra is the tourist landmark most affected by surrounding events and the slowest in recovery, confirming that the city of Petra relies entirely on tourism.
Al-Swaireh revealed that the number of tourists has improved compared to the beginning of this month.
