Jordan Died due to an error during a surgery to treat snoring

Khaberni - The Amman Magistrate Court issued a sentence of six months imprisonment for two doctors after convicting them of causing death, due to a grave medical error during a minor surgery on a citizen who was in good health.

The case dates back to the patient visiting a medical center to undergo a nasal polyp removal surgery, before the doctor decided to perform a more extensive surgical intervention at a private hospital. According to the case file, the patient entered the operating room in a stable condition, but died unexpectedly during the operation.

Medical expert committee reports revealed significant errors, negligence in medical procedures, and non-adherence to approved standards, which led to the patient's condition deteriorating and his death.

The court decided to convict the ENT doctor and the anesthesiologist, imprisoning them for six months, while maintaining the conviction for causing death, although a general amnesty covered the infraction of not documenting the health condition.

Judicial data indicate that there are more than 170 medical malpractice cases pending in Jordanian courts.
