Germany approved arms exports to Israel worth 78 million dollars

Khaberni - Government data showed that Germany approved arms exports to Israel worth 6.6 million euros (7.8 million dollars) during the first weeks of the war on Iran, although the volume remained relatively low.

The approvals covered the period from February 28, when Israeli and American forces launched strikes on Iran, until March 27, according to responses from the German Ministry of Economy to inquiries from the "Left" party.

By comparison, export licenses worth 166.95 million euros were granted during about four months after Germany lifted the restrictions it had imposed during the Gaza war on November 24, 2025. These exports did not include heavy weapons such as tanks or artillery, but "other military equipment".

Arms exports to Israel are a sensitive issue for the German government. After the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, Germany initially increased supplies in support of Israel.

As criticisms of Israel's conduct in Gaza escalated, Chancellor Friedrich Merz ordered a halt to exports of military equipment that could be used in the conflict in August 2025.

The partial ban stirred criticisms in Israel and within the ruling conservative camp in Germany, but it was lifted after about three and a half months, following the agreement to a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Even during the period of restrictions, export licenses worth 10.44 million euros were approved, according to the ministry.
